Beat Service

Tromso in Norway is apparently quite the HQ for things techno and dance, with Beat Service having started off as a radio station in the nineties, and now branching out into record label territory.

Also hailing from Tromso in Norway, this duo has been remixing other people’s stuff for years, and now they’ve decided to combine their skills and collect the assembled results on one chunky CD package.

They also manage to throw in a couple of their own tunes too, just cos they can. “The Bridge” by Bergen indie-dance types The New Wine has their danceable guitar tunes formed into an even more beat fuelled slice of music, with their Sigur Ros-esque vocals set to a backbeat of shuffling electronica and guitar stabs.

“All Of The Above” by The Phenomenal Handclap Band was an epic tune anyway in its original form – a psychedelic guitar funk freak-out. Given the F&L treatment it’s been turned into a dancefloor rocket. “Bliss Out” by Brooklyn trio Lemonade sounds like more traditional dancefloor fodder with bongos and echoey vocals thrown in for good measure.

Other tracks on here include reworkings of “Vuelo” by Skatebard and the brilliantly named Holly Hecklerhas a track on here, too. Rune Lindbaek has been plying his DJing and remixing skills since1984 and also owns his own club inOslo. Teaming up with drum’n’bass newcomer Kare Frisvold has worked wonders for both their styles, and brings a fresh approach to their remixes. One for the dance floors and coffee table toe-tappers alike.
